My name is Louis James, pronounced 'Lewis' and not 'Louie' - I have forgiven my parents...
Based in London, my aspiration is to work as a composer for media: music for video games, film, TV, radio/podcasts, and advertising.
I've always had a passion for everything related to the arts, and how music is the component that interconnects different forms of art and expressions very powerfully.
But where did that start?
As a child, I remember being intrigued by animations and video games that you'd typically find in the mid-to-late-90s. One vivid memory is playing Final Fantasy VIII for the first time. Everything about the game blew me away. The locations, the characters, and especially the music. Every melody was memorable, and the musical components fit what was happening on screen perfectly, no matter how nonsensical or bizarre it was. It was then that I instinctively realised that I wanted to recapture that moment with my own work and share the excitement with other people.
My musical journey started when I picked up a trombone at the age of 7. I took every opportunity I could to practice and play, joining local brass bands and choirs, taking part in talent contests and performing in charity concerts. I still play the trombone, and studying this instrument to grade 8 helped me to understand how musical composition and performance works, giving me an advantage in my academic journey. This includes an A* for my Music GCSE, using Logic Pro X for scoring and composition mock-ups when I studied for a BSc in Music Technology at the University of South Wales and finally being awarded my Mmus in Composing for Film and TV at Kingston University. Along the way, I have worked with other film and animation students, and indie filmmakers. This has helped me to develop my portfolio, which you can find under 'Music' on this website.
With my experience and qualifications, I am sure that I would be an ideal fit to provide creative and unique music for any up-and-coming filmmaker, video game designer or content creator.
